The Bachelor's degree in History is theoretical and practical, so the students carry out research in various archives located in the city of Mérida, spend several months in search of information from archives to meet the requirements of research and workshops and to develop their thesis; depending on the research topic, the student may travel to various locations within the state of Yucatán, the Mexican Republic or even abroad to obtain documents; in various subjects, students participate in field trips to find out about the structure of the old henequen haciendas, buildings and towns, etc. Some key places, where original documents are conserved are: The General Archive of the State of Yucatan (AGEY); General Archive of the Nation (AGN), in Mexico City; The General Archive of the Indies (AGI), in Seville, Spain; and the Library of Congress in USA (Library of Congress). An important source of information and knowledge is the Library of Alexandria (BIBALEX).


The Syllabus includes a semester in which the student is solely dedicated to work directly with the original documents that are physically in the archives. Likewise, during their training they should develop research reports.
